SGCWDF Success Stories - St George School Vehicle

Wheelchair accessible vehicle for St George School

St George School for students with severe and multiple disabilities has been fortunate to have the generous support of the St George Children with Disabilities Fund. The Fund with the support of the Community and Club grants programs has donated its 2nd vehicle for the families of the students. Through this support families have an accessible vehicle to assist in the transportation of their child in a wheelchair.

For many families this has meant that the whole family can go away together on holidays or just a weekend drive.

For other families it has meant that when their own vehicle is serviced or repaired the families can still go about their normal routine.

For the students it means that they can be together with the family on outings. It gives families the opportunity for true inclusion of their child on outings, on holidays and even for mundane chores such as shopping.

It's great to have a local charity close at hand that understands the needs of children with disabilities and the challenges families face. The charity has made a wheelchair accessible vehicle available for loan to families. We have been lucky enough to make use of the vehicle and were able to go on a family holiday. It also gave us a great insight into wheelchair accessible vehicles prior to purchasing our own. The use of the vehicle was so valuable on so many levels.

It's comforting to know that should our car be in for service, repairs or an accident, we have access to a vehicle that meets our needs. We would be house bound without it!

Thank you for the use of the van for the time my nephew was visiting Sydney from Queensland.

We are so appreciative of the Fund for the vehicle which we borrowed during the January 2016 school holidays.  It was convenient for us as a family of four with Eva in a wheelchair and our other child who is a toddler. It was easy to use with Eva going in and out of the vehicle effortlessly. It was quick and I could go shopping with my two children. Previously it was challenging to walk the distance with a toddler and push the chair. Parking was easy also. Inside there was sufficient room for the family and for Eva’s medical equipment. Eva was close to us so we could monitor her health in transit. We have already booked it again. We miss it.
